Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives Hosts 51st annual general meeting

On June 21, local charity Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG) held its 51st Annual General Meeting.
With nearly 100 members, partners, and volunteers in attendance, the organization highlighted its achievements over the past year, describing the impact of its Seniors Community Support Services, Child Care Resource & Referral Centre, the Richmond Christmas Fund, and other programs.
“Our theme this year was Showing Up for Our Community,” says Ed Gavsie, president & chief executive officer of RCRG. “We wanted to celebrate the steady, persistent work we do on a daily basis, and the difference it makes in the lives of Richmond residents.”
During the event, RCRG elected its 2023-24 Board of Directors, which will be led by new Chair Jat Puri.
“Jat is an experienced, versatile community leader,” says Gavsie. “He’s strategically minded and forward-thinking, two qualities that will help him excel as chair.”
Rick Duff, who previously held the role, will remain on the board as Immediate past chair.
“Over the last two years, Rick has been an engaged and deeply committed leader,” says Gavsie. “His contributions to our organization are too numerous to list, but we’re grateful for every one of them.”
This year’s board also includes returning members Christine Campbell, Lawrie Portigal, Rebecca Swaim, Antony Wang, Ray Wang, Jonathan Wong, Lisa Wong, and Melissa Zhang. They’ll be joined by Leon Chew and Traci Corr, who are both serving their first term.
“Electing a strong, capable Board sets the tone for the year ahead,” says Gavsie. “I’m confident that this group will govern with integrity, while offering innovative ideas that will help RCRG better serve the community.”
